Write Sprites — Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Two Cardinals Media LLC (“Two Cardinals Media,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), the company that owns and operates Write Sprites (the “Service”), collects, uses, shares, and protects your information. The Service includes the Write Sprites app and our marketing website at writesprites.com.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address and a password (handled securely by our authentication provider; we never see or store your password in plain text).

Your writing and content. We store the text you write within Write Sprites, along with related metadata (word counts, timestamps, project and document organization, and version history) so the Service can display your work back to you, let you restore earlier versions, and power the streak and progress features described in our Terms of Service.

Gameplay and usage data. We collect information about how you use the Service, such as session lengths, time spent writing, word counts per session, streaks, levels, achievements, and similar activity, to operate the core features and to understand how the Service is used so we can improve it.

Profile information. You may add profile details, such as a display name and sprite name, to your account. Your profile and stats are private and visible only to you.

Payment information. If you subscribe to Write Sprites Pro or purchase in-app items, payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full credit card number. We receive limited information back from Stripe (such as subscription status and transaction confirmations) needed to manage your account.

Communications. If you contact us for support, we keep a record of that correspondence to help resolve your request and improve the Service.

Technical and analytics information. When you use the Service or visit our website, we and our service providers automatically collect information such as your IP address, browser and device type, pages or screens viewed, referring pages, and the date and time of your visit. See Section 4.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information above to:

Operate, maintain, and improve Write Sprites
Authenticate your account and keep it secure
Process payments and manage subscriptions
Respond to support requests
Understand how the Service and our website are used, and measure the effectiveness of our marketing
Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and manipulation of game mechanics
Send you service-related communications (such as email confirmations, password resets, or important notices). These are necessary to operate your account.
Send you promotional or marketing emails about Write Sprites, only if you have opted in, and you can unsubscribe at any time (see Section 5)

We do not use your writing content to train any AI or machine learning model, and we do not sell your personal information.

3. How We Share Your Information

We share information only with the service providers who help us run Write Sprites, and only as needed for them to do so:

Supabase: database, authentication, and file storage, which stores your account data and writing content, and which sends account emails such as confirmations and password resets.
Stripe: payment processing for subscriptions and purchases, including fraud prevention.
Vercel: hosting, which runs the Service’s servers.
Google (Google Analytics): analytics, as described in Section 4.
Kit: sending marketing emails to users who have opted in, using your email address and your subscription status.
DreamHost: hosting our marketing website.

These providers act on our behalf and may use your information only to provide their services to us, except that Google and Stripe also operate under their own privacy policies for certain data, as described below.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to comply with legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Two Cardinals Media LLC, our users, or the public.

Business transfers. If Two Cardinals Media LLC or the Write Sprites business is involved in a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or sale of assets, including a transfer of the Service to a successor or affiliated entity, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any material change to how your information is handled.

Who can read your writing. Your writing is private by default. We do not read your writing except (a) when you ask us to, for example to help with a support request, (b) when necessary to investigate security issues, abuse, or violations of our Terms, or (c) when required by law.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers.

4. Cookies, Analytics, and Similar Technologies

Essential cookies. We use cookies and similar technologies such as local storage to keep you signed in and remember basic preferences (like your chosen visual theme). The Service does not work properly without them.

Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics on writesprites.com and its subdomains, including the Write Sprites app, to understand how people use the Service and our website. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect information such as your IP address, device and browser information, pages or screens viewed, and interactions with the Service. This information is transmitted to Google and is retained in Google Analytics for 14 months. Google may use it in accordance with its own privacy policy. We do not send your writing content to Google Analytics. We have not enabled Google Signals or Google’s advertising features.

You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing Google’s browser add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, by adjusting your browser’s cookie settings, or by using the cookie preferences control on our site. To learn more about how Google uses data from sites that use its services, visit https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Stripe. When you make a purchase, Stripe may use cookies and device signals on checkout pages for fraud prevention and to operate its services, under its own privacy policy.

Server logs. Our hosting and infrastructure providers keep standard server logs that include IP addresses and request details for security and operational purposes.

Advertising. We do not currently use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not sell or share your personal information for targeted advertising. If this changes, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent first.

Do Not Track. Our Service does not currently respond to Do Not Track browser signals.

5. Your Choices and Rights

Marketing emails: Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, or you can update this preference from Settings.
Access and correction: You can view and update your account information directly in the app.
Export: The app does not currently have a built-in export feature. You may request a copy of your writing and account data by emailing us at the address in Section 11, and we will respond within 30 days.
Deletion: You can delete your account at any time from Settings. Deleting your account removes your writing content, version history, and personal information from our active systems within 30 days, other than what we are required to retain for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes (for example, Stripe transaction records, which Stripe retains under its own policies). Copies in backups are overwritten on a rolling basis according to our provider’s backup schedule.
Other rights: Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address in Section 11. We may need to verify your identity first, and we will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.

6. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we delete your content, version history, and personal information within 30 days, except for records we are legally required to keep (such as payment and transaction history for tax purposes) and copies in backups, which are overwritten on a rolling basis according to our provider’s backup schedule.

Version history. Free accounts keep the last 30 days of version history for their documents. Pro accounts keep unlimited version history. If a Pro subscription ends or lapses, version history older than 30 days is deleted 30 days after the subscription ends. Your current documents are not affected.

Analytics data is retained in Google Analytics for 14 months.

7. Data Security and Breach Notification

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and reliance on Supabase’s and Stripe’s security practices for the data they handle on our behalf. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a security breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and any relevant authorities as required by applicable law.

8. Children’s Privacy

Write Sprites is not directed at, and is not intended for use by, anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn we have collected personal information from someone under 18, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a user under 18 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at the address in Section 11.

9. Where We Operate and Where Your Data Is Stored

The Service is operated from the United States and is available only to users who reside in the United States. We do not offer the Service to individuals located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland. Your information is stored and processed on servers in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those where you live.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice (for example, by email or an in-app notice) before the changes take effect. The “Last updated” date above shows when this policy was most recently revised.
